Ohio Healthy Families Act is taken off the November ballot!
By Ryan T. Neumeyer

Ohio businesses can breath a sigh of relief today as it was announced by advocates of the Ohio Healthy Families Act , Ohioans for Healthy Families, that they have dropped their campaign for a ballot initiative that would require Ohio employers to provide employee paid sick leave.  The group said it will ask the Secretary of State's office to stop the process of verifying signatures.  In addition to other onerous provisions, the Ohio Healthy Families Act would have required Ohio businesses which employ more than 25 employees to give all employees at least seven paid sick days per year, and provide part time employees with a prorated amount.   The advocate group sponsoring the Act stated that it would shift its focus to the creation of a federal bill that will also require some form of paid sick leave.   Although it appears that the Act is for the moment dead in Ohio, there may be further developments on the federal level and possibly a resurrection of the bill within the state.  You can be sure that Ross, Brittain and Schonberg will keep you updated if and when any new legislation is introduced.
